Relationality

At The World Between Us Psychotherapy, the focus is on the importance of relationships—both between us as therapist and client, and in your everyday interactions. In this modern evolution of Gestalt therapy, our therapeutic relationship becomes a central tool for healing, self-awareness, and growth.

Healing Through Relationship:

In our sessions, the connection between us is crucial. This authentic, trust-filled relationship provides a space for you to explore, heal, and grow. As we work together, we co-create a supportive environment where you can experience how healthier, more genuine connections can enhance your life.

Mutual Influence:

Unlike traditional therapy, where I might remain a neutral observer, in Relational Gestalt therapy, both you and I actively engage with each other. This mutual influence helps you understand how your relational patterns unfold and how you impact—and are impacted by—others.

Focus on the Present Moment:

Our work together will center on the here and now. I’ll guide you to explore your current thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. By staying present, we can address how your relational patterns are playing out in real-time, even within our sessions, and help you become more aware of how you relate to the world around you.

A Collaborative Process:

Relational Gestalt therapy is a dialogue, not a one-sided process. As your therapist, I see myself as a collaborator in your journey, not an authority figure. Together, we’ll explore your experiences and interactions, helping you understand and reshape how you engage with others.

Empathy and Authenticity:

I bring empathy, authenticity, and openness into our work. This creates a safe and supportive space where you can be vulnerable, explore difficult emotions, and ultimately build more meaningful connections in your life.

How Can Relational Gestalt Therapy Help You?

Embodiment

At The World Between Us Psychotherapy, I integrate the concept of embodiment into my Gestalt therapy practice. To me, embodiment is about understanding and exploring how emotions, thoughts, and experiences are expressed and experienced in the body. I believe that physical sensations are deeply connected to psychological processes, and this connection is key to our work together.

Increased Body Awareness

For me, embodiment means helping you become more attuned to your bodily sensations and their relationship to your emotions and thoughts. In our sessions, I’ll guide you to notice where you feel tension, discomfort, or other sensations in your body, and connect these experiences with your emotional state.

Physical Expression of Emotions

Emotions often show up physically. For instance, anxiety might feel like tightness in your chest, while sadness might present as heaviness in your shoulders. I use embodiment to explore these sensations and gain deeper insights into your emotional experiences.

Mind-Body Connection

My approach emphasizes the dynamic interplay between your mental and physical states. By focusing on your bodily experiences, I help you understand how your body responds to thoughts and emotions, giving you a more comprehensive view of yourself.

Experiential Techniques

In our work together, I use experiential techniques that might involve physical movement or changes in posture. These activities are designed to reveal and address underlying emotional issues, enhancing your self-awareness and processing.

Integration of Experience

By integrating bodily sensations with emotional experiences, embodiment helps resolve internal conflicts and achieve a holistic understanding of yourself. This integration is crucial for addressing and healing emotional issues effectively.

Enhancing Presence

Being mindful of your body helps you stay present in the moment. This focus enhances your awareness and emotional regulation, grounding you in the here and now.

How It Works in Therapy?

In our Gestalt therapy sessions, you might:

  • Explore Sensations: We’ll discuss and examine where you feel tension or discomfort in your body and how these sensations connect to your current emotions and thoughts.

  • Engage in Body-Focused Techniques: I might invite you to some physical movement or posture changes to understand how these physical states impact your feelings and thoughts.

  • Reflect on Body Experience: We’ll use insights from your bodily experiences as a pathway to deeper emotional exploration and healing.

Why Embodiment Matters?

Incorporating embodiment into Gestalt therapy allows for a richer exploration of your emotional and physical experiences. By connecting mind and body, we can achieve greater self-awareness and emotional healing, supporting your journey toward personal growth.
